Week 5-File Extentions

You may notice there a wide variety of file extensions available. Here is a quick guideline to what the file extensions mean and when to use them.

Text Files

Use
.docx
Microsoft Office Word document
Use when formatting and future editing are important
.txt
Plain text file
Use when formatting is not important
.epub
Electronic Publication
Use when document will be accessed using different devices (computer, tablet, phone, etc.)
.pdf
Portable Document format file
Use for forms or scanned documents
Areas where future editing will be limited

Graphical interchange format file
Use for low color
.jpg
JPEG Image
Use for web pages/email/ limited memory

Portable Network Graphic
Use for medium quality, such as word documents

Use for high resolution images for printing/ advertising

Use for forms or documents
